Bailey's 5K Run and Walk

In partnership with the American Heart Association, on

Sunday, September 19, 2021, VolunTeen Leo hosted our 1st Annual 5K to honor the life of Bailey Bullock. This event proved to be our biggest, most impactful, and most energetic event yet!  The 5k was held at the beautiful Ma & Pa Trail at the Williams Street entrance.  The run kicked off with a great energetic dynamic warmup that was a great way to get our bodies ramped up for the day!  It was a timed shotgun race. Once back at the entrance, we grabbed some water and snacks as we cheered on the remaining participants. When everyone had returned we celebrated with a group picture and announced the winners for the 5k.

Mission

Our mission is to bring awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) to high school communities, provide education and the necessary tools to respond to life-threatening cardiac medical emergencies, and enhance those events’ outcomes.

Vision

We are commited to saving that one life that would make a difference to a mother, father, brother, sister or friend.

What Brought Us Here

Bailey died suddenly of cardiac arrest after an organized track and field event on May 12th, 2021. Bailey was an avid athlete who played football, basketball, and ran track. Bailey’s premature death motivated us to develop an organization to give knowledge to our community on how to respond to cardiac emergencies.

Our Goals

Bailey was diagnosed with Wolf Parkinson’s White Syndrome (WPW) at an early age. Our goal is to bring awareness to WPW as this syndrome can cause cardiac arrhythmias and sudden death.

Wolf Parkinson’s White Syndrome (WPW) is a condition in which an extra electrical pathway in the heart causes a rapid heartbeat. The extra electrical pathway in WPW appears between the heart’s upper and lower chambers which causes a rapid heartbeat. WPW syndrome is usually present at birth. Some common symptoms of WPW syndrome include palpitation, dizziness, shortness of breath, fatigue, anxiety, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and or fainting

Screenings

Bailey’s Heart and Soul Foundation will recommend a more in-depth pre-participation examination that encompasses techniques that will minimize the risk of missing underlying cardiac disease that could potentially be fatal if that child participates in vigorous sports activities.

Training

Our goal is to make training  available to all who are instrumental in monitoring and training these up-and-coming athletes in order to maximize their safety during these times of practice and promise.

Scholarships

Our goal is to create scholarships for young up-and-coming athletic students who show promise in their chosen sport.
